Bio-Eco-Nomia is a partnership between CESAM and the Portuguese Environment Agency, with the support of the Environmental Fund, aimed at promoting Sustainable Bioeconomy and the Circular Economy in Portugal. Its purpose is to bring citizens, businesses and researchers closer together, encouraging responsible choices and contributing to a more competitive, resilient and sustainable future.
The main goal is to consolidate a national communication structure for Sustainable Bioeconomy and Circular Economy, within the framework of the Sustainable Bioeconomy Action Plan – Horizon 2025 (PABS).
Sustainable Bioeconomy seeks to enhance the value of biological resources – from land and oceans – progressively replacing fossil-based raw materials with renewable alternatives, delivering benefits for the environment, the economy and society. The Circular Economy focuses on reducing waste, reusing and recycling, fostering more efficient production cycles that are environmentally friendly.
Bio-Eco-Nomia aims to bring these concepts closer to citizens, businesses, decision-makers and the scientific community through innovative, attractive and accessible communication tools. The main actions include:
- Developing a visual identity and a reference website for bioeconomy and circular economy in Portugal;
- Producing digital content and educational materials, including infographics, animated videos, social media publications and a documentary;
- Creating resources for schools and young audiences, such as activity books and adapted scientific articles;
- Organising an annual conference and science outreach initiatives;
- Sharing funding opportunities, good practices and examples of bio-based products.
Through this project, CESAM and the Portuguese Environment Agency strengthen their role in promoting a more sustainable future, by raising consumer awareness, educating young citizens, supporting business innovation and valuing scientific research.
Bio-Eco-Nomia is therefore a meeting point between knowledge, innovation and society, designed to help build a more competitive, resilient and sustainable economic model, aligned with the challenges of climate change, biodiversity conservation and the responsible use of natural resources.
