The 6th Joint Cultural Session between the University of Aveiro and the Navy Academy will take place on April 23, 2026, at 2:00 pm, at the Auditorium of the Higher Institute of Accounting and Administration (ISCA) of the University of Aveiro. The initiative is held within the framework of the collaboration between the two institutions, this year in partnership with the National Committee for the Ocean Decade, and will be dedicated to the theme “Ocean and Human Health”.

The session brings together a set of presentations exploring the connection between the ocean and human health, including topics such as new marine-based pharmaceuticals, microplastics and cardiovascular diseases, mercury contamination, cardiovascular mortality, and the impact of the ocean in different social and clinical contexts, concluding with a reflection on the urgency for action in this area.

The event includes the participation of Susana Loureiro, researcher at CESAM/DBIO and professor at the Department of Biology of the University of Aveiro, and Luís Menezes Pinheiro, researcher at CESAM/DGEO and professor at the Department of Geosciences of the University of Aveiro, highlighting the centre’s involvement in research at the interface between environment, ocean and health.
