On March 20, at 13:00, another session of Ocean Break – CESAM’s seminar series in Marine Sciences will take place in Room 9.1.1 (DEMaC), featuring Ana Lillebø, researcher at CESAM/DBIO.
Entitled “Coastal restoration with nature and people: socio-ecological impact and policy relevance”, this presentation approaches coastal restoration not only as a process of habitat recovery, but also as an opportunity to strengthen the connection between nature, communities and decision-making processes. Drawing on the experience of the A-AAGORA project, the talk will explore nature-based approaches developed together with local communities, aiming to restore marine and coastal ecosystems while enhancing climate resilience and social well-being.
Based on real-world demonstrators in the Atlantic and Arctic regions, the A-AAGORA project highlights how reducing pressures on coastal systems, engaging citizens and integrating scientific knowledge can generate measurable socio-ecological benefits. The session will also underline the relevance of these approaches for public policy, showing how local restoration actions can inform environmental governance, support the European Union Mission “Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030”, and encourage younger generations to take part in shaping more sustainable coastal futures.
