Portuguese Data Stewards Network – International Day for Biological Diversity

22/05/2026
14:00 - 15:00

On May 22 at 2:00 PM, the Portuguese Data Stewards Network will host a session highlighting the importance of data management and curation for the preservation and valorisation of scientific and natural heritage.

The session will be divided into two parts:

The first part will focus on the AURORA Shiny App, a tool developed to streamline the sharing of biodiversity data within the scope of the project AURORA – bringing deep-sea biodiversity data to light, led by the Digital Marine Biodiversity Lab of the University of Aveiro in collaboration with REV Ocean and the Norwegian Institute for Water Research (NIVA).

The second part will address the management of scientific collections, particularly the entomological collection of the Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, covering aspects related to organisation, conservation, taxonomic identification, cataloguing, and the digitisation of biodiversity data. The presentation will also include a reference to the citizen science project MosquitoWeb.

The session is expected to last approximately one hour, including time for discussion.
