Allianz Climate Risk Research Award

The Allianz Climate Risk Research Award honours early-career researchers whose research enhances the understanding of climate change-related risks, including extreme weather events. PhD students and early post-docs are eligible to apply. The award winner receives a monetary award of €7,000. The two other finalists are granted €3,000 each. 

Topics

The thematic focus of the 2025 award is on the following areas:

  • Understanding and mitigating the risk of extreme weather events that are intensified by climate change. 
  • Fostering resilience by applying technological solutions. 

Awards

10 applicants are shortlisted by a jury of experts from industry and academia, with their work published in a Compendium on Allianz Re’s website. Out of the 10 shortlisted applicants, the top 3 finalists are invited to Munich, Germany, to present their research project at the Allianz Climate Risk Award Event. The winners of the Allianz Climate Risk Award 2025 and the Allianz Trade Award will receive a monetary award of € 7.000. The other two finalists will receive a monetary award of € 3.000 each.

Eligibility

Eligible applicants are doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers, as well as recent doctoral graduates who had their graduation/viva within two years of the application deadline. There are no restrictions on nationality or applicant location. Allianz welcomes individual applications from the fields of natural sciences as well as economic and social sciences.

How to apply

The core of your application should be a brief (max. 800 words) non-technical essay that outlines your research idea and highlights central findings. Please consult the Compendium 2024 for examples.
