Award for research on infectious diseases of animals

The biennial Plowright Prize recognises individuals who have made a key contribution towards the control, management or eradication of infectious diseases of animals. The recipient’s prize money should be used to increase or improve knowledge within the field of infectious diseases of animals, as well as inspire the next generation of veterinary professionals and scientists to undertake vital research into infectious diseases of animals. The prize recipient will receive £100,000.

Nominees can be any research scientist, veterinary surgeon, or nurse, at any stage in their career. The candidate must be able to demonstrate that:

  • His/Her work in the area of infectious diseases in animals has benefitted animals, people or society.
  • He/She is working to increase knowledge or improve the control of infectious diseases in animals.
  • He/She have published at least five articles in the field of infectious diseases.
  • His/Her work inspires and stimulates further research and improvement within the infectious disease field.

Nominators must be willing to provide a statement of recommendation explaining why the nominee is deserving of the prize. Nominations are welcomed from veterinary practices, heads of university departments or faculties, directors of research institutes, fellows of the Royal Society, and members of other European Academies of Sciences, the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and the Society of General Microbiology.
