Österreichischer Austauschdienst (OeAD – The Austrian Agency for International Cooperation in Education and Research) is accepting applications for the 2026 Ersnt Mach grants. The grant programme invites students and young researchers from foreign universities to go to Austria for a research or study visit for a maximum of nine months. Areas of study or research which are of particular interest to OeAD include: natural sciences, technical sciences, human medicine, Health Sciences, agricultural sciences, social sciences, arts and humanities.
Eligibility
Applications are accepted from candidates from all countries except Austria. The maximum age for candidates is 35. Good knowledge of English and/or German, particularly in the respective subject area, is a prerequisite. Applicants may be:
- Postgraduates pursuing a doctoral programme outside Austria;
- Postdoctoral researchers wishing to perform research in Austria with a view to an academic career and who have completed their studies at a university outside Austria after 30 September 2024;
- Postdoctoral researchers who are working as lecturers at a foreign university outside Austria.
Funding & Duration
A monthly grant is awarded for the duration of the stay, up to a maximum of nine months. The monthly rate of the grant is €1,300. Recipients of grants from non-European developing countries will also receive a travel costs subsidy of €1,000 maximum.
The OeAD can provide accommodation at a monthly cost of between €330 and €800 which the graduate must pay for out of their monthly grant. In addition, a monthly administration fee of €24 is payable for arranging accommodation.
How to apply
The following documents have to be uploaded with the online application at www.scholarships.at :
- Two letters of recommendation by university lecturers;
- Consent of a lecturer at the Austrian target university to supervise the applicant academically;
- Copy of the passport;
- Copy of the university graduation certificate of the diploma, master, PhD or doctoral studies;
- If a PhD-student: confirmation, that proves participation in a PhD-programme at home university;
- If a postdoc: confirmation that proves the employment at home university.
