Funding for Vine and Wine Research

In order to support research into vitiviniculture, the Organisation Internationale de la Vigne et du Vin (OIV – International Organisation of Vine and Wine) has launched the 2026 edition of its research grants programme. The programme, open to researchers worldwide, supports research in the fields of vines, wine, wine-based beverages, table grapes, raisins and other vine-based products. PhD students are also eligible to apply.

Topics

In line with the OIV Strategic Plan, projects must address one of the following priority themes and topics:

  • Addressing the climate change, water soil and biodiversity management challenges through solutions for sustainable vitiviniculture;
  • Deploying technological breakthroughs in grape and wine production materials in processing and packaging;
  • Management of the whole value chain to improve the systemic resilience of the global vine and wine sector;
  • Consumer safety, nutrition, health and information.

Eligibility

Candidates must be under 40 and have, at least a Master’s degree university level or more than five years of studies completed with a degree obtained.

Funding and Duration

Grants offered are either three years for researchers wishing to explore or improve an area of scientific competence compatible with the priority themes of the OIV, or short-term (6-15 months) for specific postgraduate training programmes. Three-year grants are worth up to €50,000 while short-term grants are worth up to €15,000.  Candidates must present a draft budget and provide: real cost of international and domestic travel, tuition fees if any, subsidy used to cover living costs.
