CESAM hosted a visit from FUNDECIT and FCT under the “European Union – Angola Dialogues” initiative.

In October 22, CESAM welcomed a delegation from FUNDECIT (Angola) and FCT as part of the initiative “Attractive and Sustainable Research and Development Institutions,” funded by the European Union – Angola Dialogues program.

Amadeu Soares, Director of CESAM, stated that “in the context of the visit, we discussed the organisation of the process, the evaluation criteria and scientific governance practices, reaffirming CESAM’s commitment to rigorous and transparent standards. We highlighted our institutional approach, planned, participatory and quality-oriented, as well as the importance of transparent and inclusive evaluation processes.”

This initiative aims to promote the sharing of experiences, policies, and practices related to the evaluation and sustainability of R&D institutions. The choice of CESAM to be included in the programme of visits resulted, among other factors, from the recognition of its scientific relevance and from the fact that the unit was highly rated in the most recent national evaluation process of R&D units.

During the visit, the delegation had the opportunity to learn more about CESAM’s mission, scientific strategy, and operational dynamics, as well as to engage with its team on practices and challenges related to evaluation processes.

This visit represented an important moment of knowledge and experience sharing, strengthening CESAM’s role in the national and international landscape of environmental and marine research. As part of this initiative, a workshop entitled Evaluation of R&D Institutions: European Debates and Exchange of Experiences was also held in Lisbon, in which Professor Amadeu Soares, Director of CESAM, took part in a roundtable dedicated to adapting evaluation criteria to different institutional realities.xs
