Premiering on 2 February, “ABSTRACT” is CESAM’s new audiovisual series presenting scientific publications through short, easily shareable videos. Designed to communicate research in a fast, visual and accessible way, the series is based on scientific articles authored or co-authored by CESAM researchers, transforming each publication’s abstract into a clear narrative in a universal format.
Each episode, lasting around two minutes, is based on a scientific publication published after 2024 and includes a short interview with one of the authors, helping to identify the study’s key messages and the graphic elements to be highlighted. “ABSTRACT” will be released on a biweekly basis and organised into seasons of 12 episodes. Each season will ensure a balanced representation of the research carried out at the centre, featuring two publications from each Research Cluster (RC).
Final selection of the publications will be the responsibility of the series’ scientific coordinator, Amadeu Soares, Director of CESAM, based on proposals submitted by the coordinators of the respective RCs. Episodes will be available as a curated collection on CESAM’s YouTube channel and will be promoted through the institution’s social media platforms (LinkedIn, Instagram and Facebook).
The target audience includes the scientific community within and beyond the University of Aveiro, while the format also aims to engage professionals, decision-makers and institutional partners. The videos will be presented in Portuguese, with highlights and graphic elements in English, reinforcing international accessibility.
The concept, narrative structure and graphic design of the series, as well as filming and editing, are the responsibility of Joaquim Pedro Ferreira, from CESAM’s Communication, Promotion and Outreach Support Service. With the launch of “ABSTRACT”, CESAM strengthens its commitment to the valorisation and dissemination of scientific knowledge, investing in clear, rigorous communication tailored to digital formats and diverse audiences.
“This is another distinctive hallmark of CESAM’s communication and outreach strategy, launched as part of the celebrations of CESAM’s 25th anniversary as a research unit,” says Amadeu Soares, Director of CESAM.
