CESAM researchers coordinated a seminar on zero-pollution targets and strategy for the next five years

The Environmental Monitoring, Health and Risk Assessment Research Cluster (RC5) of CESAM organized the seminar “Zero-Pollution Targets: Where We Are and Strategy for the Next Five Years” on 29 October 2025 at the Carlos Borrego Lecture Hall of the University of Aveiro, as part of its seminar series. The opening session included the participation of Amadeu Soares, Director of CESAM, who highlighted the importance of scientific research and collaboration with various partners to address the challenges of achieving zero-pollution targets.

The seminar was coordinated by Artur Alves, researcher at CESAM/DBio, and Regina Duarte, researcher at CESAM/DQ, respectively Coordinator and Co-Coordinator of RC5, who highlighted the relevance of this seminar series for defining research and innovation strategies aligned with Europe’s zero-pollution objectives.

Artur Alves and Regina Duarte emphasised that the seminar aimed to integrate different perspectives, from the interdisciplinary research conducted at CESAM to European policies and regional challenges, and they consider that this objective was fully achieved. The debate involved the participation of CESAM researchers, a representative of the European Environment Agency, and representatives of various regional partners (CIRA, Porto de Aveiro, Prio), and it was described as a highly enriching and productive event.

The researchers hope that the reflections shared will contribute to bridging science with local action and, eventually, to fostering new partnerships that support the achievement of Europe’s zero-pollution targets. The event also reinforced the role of CESAM in developing sustainable solutions for a healthier future.
