Pedro Coelho and Vítor Oliveira, researchers at CESAM/DBIO, participated in the LIFE Platform Meeting on Marine Restoration, held in Valencia, Spain, from 9 to 11 June, representing the LIFE SeagrassRIAwild project.
Organised under the European Commission’s LIFE Programme, the meeting brought together project teams, researchers, and institutional representatives from across Europe to discuss the main challenges and opportunities in the restoration of marine and coastal ecosystems. The event was particularly relevant in the current context of the implementation of the European Nature Restoration Regulation, which sets ambitious targets for ecosystem recovery by 2030 and 2050.
Pedro Coelho took part in the scientific programme as an invited speaker, presenting the work carried out within the LIFE SeagrassRIAwild project and sharing the results and methodological approaches applied to the restoration of seagrass meadows in the Ria de Aveiro. His presentation contributed to the European discussion on best practices, technical challenges, and innovative solutions for the recovery of these key habitats.
Vítor Oliveira participated in the various technical sessions and project networking activities, promoting knowledge exchange and identifying synergies with other LIFE initiatives dedicated to marine restoration across Europe.
The participation of the University of Aveiro and CESAM in this forum reinforces the University’s role as a leading institution in the study, conservation, and restoration of marine ecosystems, while further strengthening the contribution of the LIFE SeagrassRIAwild project to European goals for nature recovery and the protection of coastal biodiversity.
