CESAM researchers are included in the 2025 Highly Cited Researchers list, published by Clarivate, which recognizes the most influential scientists worldwide in their respective fields. It is noteworthy that all four researchers from the University of Aveiro recognized in this list are affiliated with CESAM, highlighting the impact and scientific excellence of this research center.
The distinguished researchers are Ana Gonçalves, Armando Duarte, João P. da Costa, and Teresa Rocha-Santos, all researchers or collaborators of CESAM. These names are part of a select group of researchers whose publications rank among the top 1% most cited worldwide, according to the Web of Science Core Collection, in the fields of Environment and Ecology and in interdisciplinary research.
In Portugal, only seven scientists were distinguished this year, four of whom are affiliated with CESAM. This result highlights the centre’s capacity to produce research with internationally recognized impact, within a global context dominated by large-scale scientific systems. The distinction awarded by Clarivate reflects the quality and relevance of the work carried out at CESAM in the fields of environmental and ecological sciences, contributing to strengthening Portugal’s position in this area.
