CESAM (Centre for Environmental and Marine Studies) and CICECO (Aveiro Institute of Materials) celebrate their 25th anniversary in 2026. To mark this milestone, the two research units from the University of Aveiro, both holding Associated Laboratory status, are organizing a commemorative session to be held on November 11th at the Nave Multiusos Caixa.
CESAM has consolidated its position in scientific research regarding marine, coastal, and terrestrial environments, focusing its work on critical issues such as climate change and environmental sustainability. Parallel to this, CICECO has established itself as a benchmark in materials science, focusing its activities on the synthesis, processing, and characterization of new functional materials with high technological application potential and industrial impact.
The organization of this event, which will begin at 10:00 AM, reflects a deliberate strategy of institutional cooperation. The complementarity between these two fields of knowledge aims to foster discussion on contemporary scientific challenges, highlighting the relevance of interdisciplinary approaches to solving complex problems. The program, which will take place throughout the morning and afternoon, will include a luncheon intended to bring together the members and collaborators who have been part of the journey of both units.
