Federal University of Tocantins visits University of Aveiro

A delegation from the Federal University of Tocantins (UFT), Brazil, visited the University of Aveiro (UA) with the aim of strengthening cooperation between the two institutions, particularly with the Department of Environment and Planning (DAO). During the meeting, special attention was also given to the recognition of Amadeu Soares, Director of CESAM and Professor at the Department of Biology, to whom the UFT University Council recently approved the conferral of the Doctor Honoris Causa title.

The UFT delegation was composed of Maria Santana Ferreira dos Santos Milhomem, Rector of the University, and Waldecy Rodrigues, researcher and coordinating professor of the Doctoral Programme in Regional Development. Representing the UA were Artur Manuel Soares da Silva, Vice-Rector; Fátima Lopes Alves, Director of DAO; Teresa Fidélis, Director of the Doctoral Programme in Territory, Risks and Public Policies; Amadeu Soares, Director of CESAM; and Miguel Oliveira, from the International Division.

Among the main objectives of the visit were the establishment of partnerships in the areas of territorial governance, risk analysis, public policies and nature-based solutions, as well as the development of joint projects in climate adaptation, urban and regional planning, and environmental sustainability. The visit also aimed to promote exchanges of faculty and students and to strengthen joint initiatives in advanced training and applied research.

The Federal University of Tocantins (UFT) is a public federal university in Brazil, operating on a multicampus basis and headquartered in Palmas, the capital of the state of Tocantins. It offers over 50 on-site undergraduate programmes, five distance-learning degrees, and a wide range of postgraduate studies, including 31 master’s programmes and six doctoral programmes, as well as specialisation courses and MBAs.
