Professor Amadeu Soares awarded the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa by the Federal University of Tocantins

The University Council of the Federal University of Tocantins (UFT), Brazil, has approved the awarding of the title of Doctor Honoris Causa to Amadeu Soares, Full Professor in the Department of Biology and Director of CESAM.

This distinction, formalised by Resolution No. 142/2025 – CONSUNI/UFT, acknowledges:
“the decisive role he has played in consolidating and strengthening the scientific standing of the institution. Beginning with his support for the establishment of the Environmental Engineering course in Palmas, his collaboration expanded to Biology, Agronomy, and Crop Production at the Gurupi campus, where he fostered the creation of postgraduate programmes, the advanced training of faculty and researchers, and the establishment of leading research infrastructures. Through pioneering international cooperation projects, supervision, and exchanges, he has made a unique contribution to the internationalisation and scientific advancement of UFT in various fields of Engineering and Environmental Sciences.”

Commenting on this distinction, Professor Amadeu Soares stated:
“Science, like life, is built with time, persistence, and contributions that withstand the erosion of fashions and short memories. There are those who have recently ‘discovered’ ‘excellence’ and already feel entitled to judge the paths of others. I prefer to recall that, when some were still learning to walk, others were already opening paths that have since become wide roads. To all those who have accompanied and endured me along this journey, this recognition also belongs to you.”

CESAM congratulates itself on this recognition, which honours not only the career of its Director but also the scientific community it represents.
