The 2-DEPLAST project proposes the bioengineering of innovative and bi-functional biopolymers to foster both the sustainable decomposition and efficient detection of plastic wastes, which are major threats to oceans’ health. An interdisciplinary research team in microbial genetic engineering, metabolomics, toxicology, polymer chemistry, photonics, and design/communication, will be gathered to develop degradation systems and biosensors of plastic compounds.
