With global plastic production growing exponentially, the presence of micro/nanoplastics (MNPLs) and additives in the food chain has become a public health priority. Despite the emergence of bioplastics (Bio-PL) as eco-friendly alternatives, a critical knowledge gap remains regarding their comparative toxicity and the effects of their degradation products under realistic conditions, which are often overlooked in conventional studies. Objective: WIN-PLASTIC aims to compare the safety profile of conventional polymers and Bio-PL, analyzing MNPL formation and the migration of chemical contaminants to assess impacts on human health.
