This project aims at formulating cocktails of autochthonous plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) suitable for targeted manipulations of the rhizosphere of the halophyte Salicornia ramosissima. The objective is to modulate the metabolome of the plant towards the production of high added value metabolites, while improving stress tolerance to climate change and environmental deterioration. The work plan involves 3 participants: University of Aveiro (UA), Foundation of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (FFC) University of Algarve. University of Aveiro is responsablefor the analysis of the rhizosphere microbiome of S. ramosissima, isolation of PGPR and assessment of the effect of inoculation with selected PGPR on the metabolome of the plant. The effects of inoculation on tolerance to environmental stress, to pollutants and to multi-stress conditions will be addressed by FFC and UAlg, respectivelly.
