Deadline: 20 October 2024 (aimed at mobilities scheduled between the last quarter of 2024 and the first quarter of 2025)

The University of Aveiro, as part of the ECIU consortium, is funding the mobility of researchers and PhD students. Grants, up to 4 000 €, fund outgoing travels and associated subsistence costs to visit member or associate member institutions of the ECIU.

How to apply

If you want to apply to the ECIU Mobility Fund you must send this application form to research@ua.pt, ensuring that the following assumptions are met and the identified documents are attached:

• Applicants must contact the host institution and get its agreement for the mobility scheme, attaching proof of this confirmation (email) to the application email;
• The support from the Research Unit coordinator must be secured and, in the case of PhD students, the support from the supervisor must also be guaranteed;
• The budget must be detailed, with the limit of 4 000 € (do not indicate only the maximum value allowed);
• Attach 2-page CV or link to CienciaVitae or other online CV.

Duration

• Applicants are obliged to a minimum stay of 5 working days (excluding travel days).
• Duration of stay is negotiated on an individual basis. 

Eligible costs

• Costs for travels (e.g., tickets of bus, train and flights) and associated subsistence costs (e.g., accommodation and travel allowance).
• If experiments are planned, coverage of lab costs (including access) need to be agreed between participating member institutions before the mobility.

The funding in principle does not cover following types of costs and expenditures:

• Attendance fees for conference or symposium, as well as costs for consultancy work for research proposals.
• Bench fees charged by a hosting member institution.
• Personal expenses of participants.

Evaluation

The funding decision and application evaluation will be led and coordinated by the UA Vice-Rector for Research, Innovation and 3rd cycle. A committee may be constituted for that purpose. The decisions will be based on several criteria:

• purpose and clarity of outcomes from proposed collaboration are clearly articulated;
• research goals behind the specific collaboration are clearly identified;
• resulting research and/or knowledge exchange benefits to collaborating parties and universities are evident;
• longer-term mechanisms for supporting collaboration beyond ECIU fund are considered.

‍Examples of exchanges supported by this scheme

Participants are encouraged to explore different types of exchanges, based on their needs, including but not limited to following examples:

• Research activities as the focus to strengthen research collaboration, prepare for future research publications, projects, and funding applications.
• Intensive programme for PhD students with opportunities to take a short-term intensive study course at a member institution.
• Shadowing programme for researchers or research supporting staff with opportunities to get acquainted with a host institution’s research infrastructure, working methods or organisational model.
