The Doctoral Prize in Ecology ‘Fundação Amadeu Dias’ honours the best doctoral theses, in any area of Ecology, awarded by Portuguese universities, regardless of the nationality of the candidates. Three prizes will be awarded, worth €3,000, €2,000 and €1,000, respectively, for first, second and third prize, and one year’s SPECO (Portuguese Ecology Society) and SIBECOL (Iberian Ecology Society) membership fees.
The Doctoral Prizes in Ecology are awarded annually to doctoral theses developed by candidates enrolled at any Portuguese university institution, who are members of SPECO and whose theses are supervised by at least one SPECO member. Both candidates and supervisors can become members of SPECO for application.
Theses that have been awarded in the last two years in relation to the closing date for applications for the year in question are eligible for each award. Candidates may not apply more than once.
The ecology area open to competition is open to any type of ecosystem, transversal in its approach from a micro to macro scale, and encompassing questions of a fundamental theoretical or applied nature.
The application process must be written in Portuguese and submitted here.
