Ocean Break Seminar to Discuss Trajectories and Threats of Seagrass Meadows

23/06/2023
12:30 - 13:30

On June 23rd, 2023, from 12:30 to 13:30, in Amphitheater 9.1.1 (DEMaC), another edition of “Ocean Break,” a seminar series related to marine research conducted at CESAM, will take place.

This time, researcher Ana Sousa (CESAM/DBio) will address the topic: Trajectories and Threats of Seagrass Meadows: Protection, Restoration, and Management to Preserve and Promote Ecosystem Services.

Biodiversity and climate crises are significant global challenges affecting marine seagrass ecosystems. Their degradation and loss, resulting from various threats, occur worldwide, jeopardizing the biodiversity of these ecosystems, their role as blue carbon ecosystems (BCEs), their potential for climate change mitigation, and the provision of other ecosystem services. This lecture will discuss the threats and trajectories of seagrass meadows and will provide examples of actions to protect, restore, and manage these ecosystems.

This seminar is a joint organization between three research groups from CESAM: CDEC (Ecology and Conservation of Coastal and Deep-Sea Ecosystems), MBA (Marine Biotechnology and Aquaculture), and POMG (Physical Oceanography and Marine Geology). Entry is free for all interested parties.
