Deadline: 2 May 2025
CESAM, as a full member of EuroMarine, is eligible for two funding schemes boosted by its working group OYSTER – Orienting Young ScienTists of EuroMarine. OYSTER is funding up to 15 Individual Fellowships to attend training activities of your choice (e.g., courses, workshops) and 10 Travel Grants to attend conferences (500 €, each). PhD students and scholars in their first post-doctoral position are eligible.
Eligibility
The following activities are eligible for funding:
- Training courses or workshops (including EuroMarine foresight workshops) in topics relevant to your career and the EuroMarine domain.
- Travel and accommodation for relevant conferences.
- Any type of course: on-site or e-learning/online courses.
- There is no limit to the duration of the activity, but it must run and be completed between June 2025 and 30 November 2026.
Eligible candidates include PhD students or individuals holding a post-doctorate position within 5 years of their PhD degree award or research technicians within 7 years of their last degree award (discounting any time spent on parental, illness or similarly extensive non-holiday leave).
Only one application per individual per call. There is no limit on how many young scientists per organisation can apply, but a maximum of three individuals from any organisation can be awarded in any one call round.
Funding
A grant of up to €500 to contribute towards covering direct costs related to participation in a training activity or conference. Eligible costs are participation fees, and travel & subsistence expenses. If total participation costs exceed the grant amount, successful applicants must cover the additional costs from other sources.
If awarded, applicants will be reimbursed after their participation in the training activity once submission of evidence of eligible expenses (participation fees and travel & subsistence expenses) is provided by the applicant.
How to apply
Applications must be submitted by email to fellowships@euromarinenetwork.eu. All applications will receive a confirmation email acknowledging submission. If no response is received within 2 working days, please send a follow-up e-mail to confirm it was received.
- Applicants must write an application letter (no more than 1.5 A4 pages) justifying why they should receive funding to attend their targeted training course, workshop, or conference (template available here).
- Applicants must complete and sign a declaration form. For this, you should contact CESAM’s Representative (the researcher Paulo Baganha Baptista).

- If already accepted in the conference, provide a proof of the acceptance;
- If awaiting news of successfully securing a place, a copy of your application or a receipt of your application;
