This programme is designed to boost research and innovation capacity in “widening countries,” such as Portugal, that have historically been less research-intensive. By promoting collaboration, networking, and access to centres of excellence across Europe, WIDERA helps these countries strengthen their participation in transnational projects, adopt best practices, and build more robust research systems. Ultimately, this supports a more balanced and cohesive advancement of the European Research Area, enabling the EU to progress together.
