Open call for COST Actions

23/10/2024

Researchers are invited to submit COST Action proposals contributing to the scientific, technological, economic, cultural or societal knowledge advancement and development of Europe. Multi- and interdisciplinary proposals are encouraged. This is a great opportunity to create an interdisciplinary research network in a topic of your choice for 4 years.

Deadline: 23 October 2024

By focusing on networking activities, COST Actions help to advance knowledge and strengthen the research and development sector, by creating networking opportunities for researchers to meet and discuss ideas, complex problems can be addressed in a targeted way, across a large geographical area. To be eligible, a proposal for a COST Action shall be anonymous, hence contain no direct or indirect reference to proposers and/or institutions participating in the network of proposers, meaning that proposers’ and/or institutions’ names should neither be explicitly mentioned nor be potentially identifiable.

COST Actions act as a pre-portal to other funding instruments. Follow-up proposals from COST Actions have a 37% success rate, which leads to 5.8 million spin-off funding per Action. Moreover, COST Actions are a career accelerator for young researchers with 88% indicating that participation has led to a significative advancement in career.

If you want to submit a COST Action, you can find the application form and guidelines here. You should bear in mind that COST does not fund research itself. It only supports networking via different activities such as meetings, short-term scientific missions, training schools, and dissemination products. Proposals must be submitted electronically via the e-COST online submission tool. You may see previous awarded Actions before writing your proposal: The complete list can be found here, and, in most of the COST Actions you can read the application (click on “Read Project Description MoU”).

You can also be part of an ongoing COST Action by:

   – Participate in a specific COST Action activity (e.g. Training Schools, Short-term Scientific Missions, and workshops);

   – Become a Working Group member;

   – Become a Management Committee member.

Instructions on how to participate in each situation can be found here.

CESAM coordinates one COST Action (CA19105) and has participants in other 11 ongoing COST Actions.

If you would like the support from CESAM in the application process, please send an e-mail to cesam-gesciencia@ua.pt.
