Visiting scholars program in ocean sciences

29/12/2023

SCOR (Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research) funds up to $2,500 to ocean scientists who want to donate their time to teaching and mentoring in a developing country for two weeks or more. The scholarships are not intended to conduct joint research, although such research may develop as an outcome of a visit.

Deadline: 29 December 2023

Since 2009, SCOR has supported ocean scientists from developed and developing countries to teach short courses and provide extended on-site education and mentorship relevant to ocean science at developing country institutions. The overarching goal of this program is to inspire, motivate, and inform students and faculty at developing institutions while also building long-term and sustainable collaborations and capacity. More than 50 scientists have participated in the program with host institutions in 25 countries. The SCOR Visiting Scholars webpage includes a list of past scholars, their hosts, and their topics of focus.

The program is a partnership, with the host institution providing local accommodation and SCOR paying for airfares and other local expenses, as necessary, and up to $2,500.
