Within the scope of the largest intervention of artificial sand nourishment (“Shot”) carried out in Portugal, concerning to the agreement of dredging the ZALI deposits and adjacent Aveiro harbour bottoms, to reinforce the coastal stretch south of Costa Nova, with an estimated volume of more than 2 million cubic meters, the CESAM is responsible for the technical and scientific work concerned with monitoring the results of this intervention, from a qualitative and quantitative point of view. The work to be carried out includes a set of methodologies, namely the use of fluorescent tracers, granulometric characterization, measurement of sedimentary flows and topographic and bathymetric surveys, with the goal of contributing to the characterization of the sector’s sedimentary dynamics, more specifically, for the definition of sedimentary transport patterns in various wave regimes during the period in which the sedimentary recharge operation of the submerged beach, in the considered coastal stretch, will take place.
