Deadline: 30 June 2025
The European project MICROBES-4-CLIMATE (M4C) launched its 1st Transnational Access (TNA) Call, inviting researchers to apply for access to cutting-edge research infrastructures, data, and expertise. This initiative aims to foster cross-border collaboration and accelerate scientific progress in microbial and environmental sciences. Researchers and PhD students working in fields such as biotechnology, agro-food, pharmaceuticals, and environmental sciences are encouraged to apply. This is a unique opportunity to expand your professional network and utilise advanced infrastructures that are often otherwise inaccessible, enabling you to pursue innovative projects and contribute to frontier research on the role of microbes in climate change, biodiversity, and ecosystem resilience.
Available services
- Supply of biological resources
- Preservation of biological resources
- Isolation of microbial resources from soil and plant samples
- Identification and characterisation of microbial resources
- Soil and plant characterisation technologies

Funding
Microbes-4-Climate funds your access to:
- Access to laboratories (wet and dry), experimental facilities and expertise from specialised support staff
- Travel expenses are covered by the TNA programme
- In-person access
- Access to top-level expertise and platforms, including isolation, identification and characterisation of microbial resources, technologies for soil and plant characterisation, computational infrastructure and tools, as well as scientific and/or technical support
- In-person and/or remote access
- Access to a diverse range of microorganisms and data with shipping fees being covered by the TNA programme
- Remote access
How to apply
Applicants must apply for at least two services, each from a different Research Infrastructure or M4C beneficiary. Priority will be given to cross-disciplinary projects, integrating microbes and the environment (plants, soil, etc.) to address climate change.
Applicants must consult the facility/service managers before submitting proposals to ensure feasibility. Facility managers will assess technical and logistical aspects and confirm alignment with the TNA offer. Only after this may you apply here.
Please remember that if you are considering applying, you must follow these guidelines. Contact us (cesam-gesciencia@ua.pt) for specific support.
