Ocean Break Seminar: EU Mission “Restoring Our Ocean and Waters by 2023”

13/10/2023
13:00 - 14:00

On October 13, 2023, between 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM, another edition of the “Ocean Break” series of seminars related to marine research conducted at CESAM will take place in amphitheater 9.1.1 (DEMaC).

This time, researcher Ana Lillebø (CESAM/DBio) will address the topic: EU Mission “Restoring Our Ocean and Waters by 2023”: Contribution from the Central Region, Portugal, through the A-AAGORA project.

The A-AAGORA project is a Horizon Europe Innovation Action of the Mission “Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030,” for the Atlantic & Arctic Basins Lighthouse. It is based on the successful implementation of nature-based solutions following an ecosystem-based management approach in three demonstrators (Central Region, Portugal; County Cork, Ireland; and the Arctic Troms Archipelago, Norway). In this context, the Central Region, Portugal, will serve as a pilot for the development of transformative innovations. The Living Lab concept will promote the exchange of synergies at various scales between researchers and users, policymakers, and local communities, industry and SMEs, integrating existing and new knowledge, co-designing and co-implementing with citizens and stakeholders in a process of deliberative democracy.

Through A-AAGORA, the Central Region, Portugal, will contribute to the development of models for the Atlantic & Arctic Basins Lighthouse for the restoration, protection, and preservation of our oceans, seas, and waters, as well as to enhance coastal resilience to the impacts of climate change.

This seminar is a joint organization of three research groups at CESAM: CDEC (Ecology and Conservation of Coastal and Deep-Sea Ecosystems), MBA (Marine Biotechnology and Aquaculture), POMG (Physical Oceanography and Marine Geology). It is open to all interested parties.
