Summary: The presentation highlights the European mission-driven approach as a central strategy for driving scientific and technological innovation in Europe. The focus will be on the Mission “Recovering Our Ocean and Waters by 2030”, exploring its objectives, architecture and implementation model. Furthermore, relevant projects that contribute to the restoration of ecosystems and biodiversity will be presented, highlighting their first results and the impact generated so far. The session will also address how this mission integrates multidisciplinary efforts to address global challenges related to climate change and the sustainability of our ocean and waters.
Biographical Note: Biologist, graduated in Zoology from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in 1981; Architect, graduated from Universidade Santa Úrsula in Rio de Janeiro in 1988, with equivalence granted by the Faculty of Architecture of the Technical University of Lisbon in 1989; Master of Science in Engineering and Technology Management from the Institute of Innovation, Technology and Development Policies (IN+) of Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) in 2005. Between 2017 and 2024, he served as Chief Business & Network Officer at the Atlantic International Research Center ( AIR Centre). He is currently responsible for the Nations Enablement & Joint Expeditions area at the Foundation to Support Deep Ocean Discovery, based in Thuwal, Saudi Arabia.
