On November 10th, the “Remedies in the Ocean Symposium” will take place at the Renato Araújo Auditorium at the University of Aveiro. This event, organized by the Order of Pharmacists in collaboration with CESAM, aims to discuss the interaction of the oceans with pharmaceuticals from two perspectives. On one hand, the potential of marine ecosystems as a source of new molecules with therapeutic potential, and on the other, the contamination of the seas with pharmaceutical residues, a problem that has been worsening significantly.
These and other issues will be discussed with experts in the field, culminating in a roundtable where the goal is to assess what can be done to try to halt and reverse the escalating destruction that our ocean is facing.
As part of this event, there will also be an inauguration of a photographic exhibition featuring the underwater world, created by the pharmacist Nuno Castro Gonçalves, who recently won the gold medal in the “19th CMAS World Championship of Underwater Photography” competition in the Fish category.
