FIRE-MODSAT II proposes to extend the previous developed successful work focusing on the question: How can fire growth simulations be improved? This is accomplished by refining fire spread predictions through improving data quality and uncertainty quantification (Task 2), and model accuracy (Task 3) based on historical large wildfires. Research improvements are integrated into probabilistic fire simulations to determine wildfire exposure using extreme weather scenarios (Task 4) and to predict near-real time fire spread (Task 5). Evaluation is performed using satellite data and end-users expert knowledge (Task 6). Project coordination and benchmark research are embraced in Task 1.The NAVIGATOR pulp Industry Company, the National Civil Protection Agency and AFOCELA have a critical role in the project by evaluating the quality of the produced information to support fire management decisions. FIRE-MODSAT II aims at moving the scientific body of knowledge forward by contributing to improve the of fire management decisions of the main stakeholders, thus minimizing present and future impacts of wildfires. It covers different fields of expertise that are duly covered by the skills of the proponent team.
